Every state in our country has children in foster care. They belong to all of us.
Now is the time to show we care. During the month of May, the nation’s leading child welfare organizations come together to present a unified, compelling and robust public face for foster care. The campaign raises awareness about the urgent needs of these young people and encourages citizens from every walk of life to get involved – as foster or adoptive parents, volunteers, mentors, employers or in other ways.
National Foster Care Month raises visibility for the issue and attaches a strong call-to-action message that encourages more people to get involved and provides an opportunity to shine a light on the experiences of the more than 400,000 children and youth in the foster care system and the over 3 million children who are identified as potential victims of abuse and neglect.
It is a time when Project WE goes BLUE to signal our dedication to continuing to raise awareness of the issue of foster care and to honor those already working to make a difference. No matter their age, all children at risk of or in foster care need a meaningful connection to at least one caring adult who becomes a supportive and lasting presence in their lives.
Join us as WE raise hopes and advance the WE mission to create classrooms without walls, where inspiration, creation and education meet.
Visit www.fostercaremonth.org to find out more about the many ways you can get involved and make a lasting difference for America’s children.

Presidential Proclamation — National Foster Care Month
NATIONAL FOSTER CARE MONTH, 2012
BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
Childhood is a time for our young people to grow and learn, protected by their families and safe in their homes. But for almost half a million children who are unable to remain at home through no fault of their own, childhood can be a time of sadness, pain, and separation. These children need and deserve safe, loving, and permanent families who can help restore their sense of well-being and give them hope for the future.
